First draft of my animation.

Evaluation of Unit

I have learned that maya takes an incredible amount of time to render and crash frequently, next time I know to give myself alot more time to render. (especially since you normally find a problem in your scene once its actually finished resulting in you rendering again).

By watching other's work at the crit I noticed the difference between how they got to the outcome of appearance in their work. So to improve I'll use specular maps, learn how to use bump maps and will get a better understanding of texturing.

After doing this unit I feel alot more encouraged to get better at animating, I am starting to understand how it works and with more preparation I will use in conjunction with Meg's 2D method of animating.

DVD Cover Idea 2

After thinking about The "cats and dogs cover" I thought of one that was more closely linked to the actual story line because a battle doesn't really occur between them, Sivus is really a pretty sad excuse for a virus being caught straight away...
So on that note I've decided the Cover should be Sivus in the middle with his fake blood cell mask, with all the white cells staring at him.

or Like cats and dogs Sivus on the side with a mask and Celi on the other side glaring suspiciously.

DVD Cover Idea 1

I was not/ am not sure about this cover, the colours seem a little to much. It also looks a little tacky. After speaking to Andriana she suggested something similar to the "Cats and Dogs" DVD cover.

I do quite like the idea so I'll begin creating one for my final DVD cover~

The creation of Sivus's Gadgets

After deciding to create a fake blood cell mask for Sivus to try and hide behind me Andriana and Kay were trying various different colouring techniques in photoshop to make the blood cell look like it was shoddily done.

In the end I ended up grabbing a child's' drawing of the internet and overlaid the colour on my blood cell to create the perfect mask texture!

I need some help with the eyeballs I created. They are parented so they move when moved on the translate section but when I rotate them they poke out off the eyelids, how can I stop that from happening?

Simon the duplicate special worked but when I move its position (move tool) it rotates around the one it was duplicated from how can I stop it from doing that?

I tried un parenting them to see if that was it just stops the animation.

I've been using the trax editor to loop my animations which does work however I need to duplicate an object i.e. Blood Cell, when I do it doesn't have the animation I set or it in the trax editor.

Is there a way for me to add a new object to a character set?
(I assume by adding multiple objects to one character set will allow me to duplicate and share animations between them)

Phil linked me to some of Samurai Jack's concept art, and its inspiring and I love the concepts (especial fig.1).
So I'm going to try and create a last concept which has this beautiful aura about it.

New Environment design

I liked Osmosis Jones's way of having walls with what looked liked windows, making the environment seem like a mini town.

New Environment Direction

My earlier textures for my environment were simply taken from raw meat pictures which didn't fit well with my chosen style, it was simply chosen due to simplicity but altogether it didn't look good.

So after being told by Phil, and talking to my family about it they reminded me of my earlier references "Osmosis Jones" and "How my body works" in order to see how they were able to tackle it.

My father said that the inside of the body shouldn't all be one colour because it isn't, and that I should add a "sky". When re watching Osmosis Jones I realise what he meant by that.

I've been tacking screenshots from the movie as a reference for colour tone and appearance.
By looking at these I realise that I have to draw my texture, I cannot just use an image of the internet.







I want to use Osmosis Jones style in surroundings, by being interesting yet simple.

(I have just seen the post by Simon and he confirms my new take on this, by using hand drawn textures and surroundings which does not take away from the narrative.)

Phil when you commented on my last render shot of my environment and you said " maybe this level of squishy, butcher's window aesthetic may not be entirely appropriate."


What did you mean by butcher's, I am not entirely sure how to make this look better,yet.

After talking to my mother I realised I've been doing my work in the wrong order, therefore I will finish my pre viz before I get to carried away.

I found the best way to end up with a cell shape was with Nurb Surfaces, but by doing so the uv's I created earlier became invalid, so I had to spend time figuring out how to make the texture fit correctly along the Nurb sphere, eventually it worked, this has let me know that I can not make the varied cells like I had hoped and I do not have time to learn how to make nurb surfaces control the way I want.
