Walt Disney (1901-1966)

Walt Disney as person  was an American film producer, director and screenwriter, voice actor entrepreneur  entertainer and international icon. He and his staff created some of the world's most loved fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, which, Walt Disney was the original  voice for.

Walt Disney, as a company is one of the biggest and most well known animation companies alongside Warner bros.

Walt Disney as a company continues to prodcuce many cartoons with the worlds most loved characters but in 1940, walt disney decided to take a different turn and create a long musical animated film with many shorts residing inside. This was known as Fantasia  (1940)
Fantasia was animation where they used classical music with stunning animation to tell stories.

Norman McLaren ( 1914-1987)

Norman McLaren was a well known film director for his work for the 'National Film Board for Canada'.
His style of animation and filmaking varried from: abstract animation, Visual Music, Pixelation, graphical sounds and drawn on film animation.

Pas de Deux (1968) "This is a black and white film of a simple ballet performance transformed by its presentation to yield something that could only exist on film. Careful lighting, an atmospheric score, judicious use of slow motion and the stunning application of optical printing to multiply and mirror the figures makes one of the best ballet films I’ve ever seen; it was also one of McLaren’s personal favourites among his many films."

He was also awarded a BAFTA award for Pas de Deux.

Charlotte (Lotte) Reiniger (1899 –1981)

Lotte Reiniger, a silhouette animator and film director, was quite a remarkable woman with a lot of patience.
She created amsuing shorts likeCinderella (1922)

"One of the first films by the silhouette animator Lotte Reiniger was Cinderella (1922). Fairy stories comprise much of Reiniger’s output, most notably in the 15 shorts she made in the UK between 1953 and 1955. Her Cinderella (she made another version in 1954) is quite a faithful, if fleeting adaptation of the story, but its form and style are extraordinary."

Jimmy Murakam  Is a Japanese American animator. His most notable works are the animated adaptations of the Raymond Briggs books, The snowman (1982), along side When the wind blows (1986).

Animation Timeline: Bill Plympton (1946 - Present)

Bill Plympton is an american animator and former cartoonist director. His style of animation includes a lot of witty humor and in one of his shorts, How to kiss (1989) a simple white background so the viewers focus is only on the strange malleable humans in front of them. A nice aspect of all of Plypmton's work is that he puts a comic spin on things we've seen and have probably thought a comedic thing about but Plympton actually animates and brings this charm to all his work.

    
He also created a nonsensical animated feature move called Tune (1992) in which a man with only 47 minutes to create a tune ended up with a creative block which took him to towns like Flooby Nobody, where it seemed like everyone was signing. His journey was amusing to watch as well as the very interesting characters he met along the way.

(I'm not ignoring the fact my previous animatic wasn't clear, before I do redo it however I shall be editing the finished version with sound so I understand it.

I love the idea of the stupidly happy music you get with silent movies so I've decided, using this site, http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html?genre=Silent%20Film%20Score that that is what my piece shall contain.

Animation Timeline: Stuart Blackton (1875-1941)

Stuart Blackton was a film producer who was among the first filmmakers to use the techniques of stop motion and drawn animation.

Most notable works were that of Humorous Phases of Funny Faces (1906).


A short animation with random figures and faces being animated with chalk on a chalk board.

Another amazing short by Blackton was The Enchanted drawing, (1900) where he interacted with the drawing with the drawing responding and changing depending on the situation.
Even look at it now in our overly done "special effect world" this animation still makes me question how he did it,  while still being amazed and excited while watching~
