Final Environment Design

I found creating an environmental image difficult to do, I was advised to change the angle I was doing it at to maybe help the pictures form better in which I came up with this. How I saw it coming out was very different to what I produced and I want to improve my "Environment skills" in order to make it.. more attractive..

@ Phil: About crit presentation

I just wanted to ask about "The final Storyboard", does it need to be the one used in the animatic (as I have already made it, with arrow directions), or is it just the same with colour which, like rubens, had zoom etc on the top of the specific frame>

Also about the final script are we including this in our presentation?

Also about the character sheets, since I made a character Bible (which includes the Character sheets) would it be wrong of me to present the character bible, or should I just present the character sheets by them selfs?

Finished Storyboard

I have finally finished my storyboard, after three grueling days, and I'm now working on inking it to make it more presentable for the animatic.

Storyboard Progression

After all the required pieces are scanned I will, Photoshop it in a way, which should make it easy to view.
I think I'm going to try for the approach Ruben took for this one.

Official storyboard sequences: part 2

I'm curious, must we put these into Photoshop to make them 'come out' better?

@ Phil

Phil I know we are to produce our own sounds to this animatic, however does this mean that any music with copyright is prohibited?

(In my dream scene I'd like to play comical music to go along with the visuals)

Official storyboard sequences: part 1

These are the official sequences for my animatic for the crit, I'm getting there slowly but surely..

*Took more than 5 hours to only do 9 squares!?*

Unit Progression

Despite the stressfulness of this unit, while working on my official storyboard I realise that I can produce certain angles that I didn't even know I was capable of.

I am worried about completing this all for next week but I am proud of myself already for being able to do such exciting art and positions.

On my last unit Phil talked about my lack of looking at the real world to gain realism in pieces, so to change that I've photographed myself for many of the scenes in the storyboard to help me understand how the body works and more so for my scene~

Notes

My father noted that the designs for my 'Old Man' character reminded him of a man called Mr.Magoo.

Character Bible: preparation Old Man

I think I'll either use photoshop to take out the body under the clothes for both The Old man and Dane, and then darken the lines via contrast alterations. I was originally planning on drawing over in Sai, then recolour it but now I'm starting to think that might be abit excessive.

Essay Introduction

The beginnings of my essay.

Reservoir dogs (1992)

                                               fig.1

Reservoir Dogs starring Harvey KeitelTim Roth and Michael Madsen directed by Quentin Tarantino (1992). A movie famed for its clever way of delivering information via its non linear structure. The beginning scene used an interesting way to introduce its character to the audience by ways of having the camera rotate around the table, and when a change of character would appear or a new shot, like the movie The Rope by Alfred Hitchcock, the camera goes behind a mans back.

"This is one of those rare motion pictures that are both intelligent and visceral at the same time." (Berardinelli.1994)

                                                            Fig.2

The films flash backs are attached to each of the characters names, allowing the audience to get to know the character. The torture scene, possibly another influential scene where we see Mr. Blonde dancing to happy music will chopping an officers ear off. At the very end where a three way standoff presents itself, in which Mr. White protects Mr. Orange, they all end up shooting each other making the quote "No honour among thieves" true.

"The movie has earned itself a reputation as a violent picture and provided a convenient platform for some hysterical media reaction. As is often the case, viewing reveals a different truth."(Halidason.2000)

Fig.3

Reservoir Dogs, like The birds directed by Alfred Hitchcock decided that apart from when a character turned on the radio the movie would have no music, this style when done correctly makes the movie more real to the audience because its simulates real life. For instance the scene when Mr. Pink is running away from the cops and threatens a woman to abandoned her car he smashes her window, the sounds of the window breaking was surprisingly real despite the fact I and other members of the audience may not have actually heard a window break.

"When the aforementioned gruesome incident takes place, with Stealers Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle with you" blaring away, you'll never listen to that song quite the same way again."(Howe.1992)
